What is the free chat on a cam site, and what is free in it?
In one sentence
The performer’s public room: you watch and read the shared chat for free, and pay only when you tip or start a paid show.
The room you enter first
Open a performer’s page and you land in the free room: the camera, and a chat everyone in the room shares.1, 4 LiveJasmin and BongaCams define it in the same words, as interacting with performers by writing on-screen text messages.1, 4
On MyFreeCams, guests without an account can watch every model for as long as they want.6 Writing is another matter: most models keep the chat for registered or Premium members.7 BongaCams asks you to register to use its free chat, and Cam4 calls visitors without an account guests, limited to the public parts of the site.5, 8
Free to watch, paid to act
Watching costs nothing; money starts when you act.6, 11 CamSoda lists tipping performers in public shows among the first uses of its tokens.9 On Stripchat, a request from the tip menu can be shown to everyone in the public chat or to the model only.10
The paid formats take you out of this shared room: LiveJasmin describes its private chat as face to face, away from the general users, which is what a private show sells.3
What the free room does not allow
LiveJasmin’s rules forbid any sexually explicit material in its Free Chat area and in every image shown to the general public.2 On that platform, the free room is not where a show goes explicit.our reading, source 2
On OleCams
OleCams calls it the Free Room: entering costs no credit, and other members can usually chat with the model too.11
