Money and tokens
What are tokens on cam sites, and what do they cost?
In one sentence
The currency of the site: you buy tokens in packages with real money, then spend them on tips and paid shows.
One currency per site
Each platform sells its own tokens, and they only work there. Some use another word: LiveJasmin and Flirt4Free sell “credits”.
The bigger the package, the cheaper the token
BongaCams lists packages from 47 tokens for $3.99 up to 17,980 tokens for $990, which takes the token from about 8.5 cents down to 5.5 cents. CamSoda runs from 50 tokens for $6.99 to 3,100 tokens for $249.99, so from about 14 cents down to 8. CamSoda also writes that packages start “as low as approximately $0.08 per token”, a figure that only matches its largest packages. It adds that the final price changes with the country, because of VAT and exchange rates.
On Chaturbate, a wire transfer (minimum $250) is credited at $0.08 per token.
What the performer receives
Stripchat states that performers are paid $0.05 per token whatever package the viewer bought. Chaturbate’s conversion table gives the same rate: 100 tokens convert to $5.00. The gap between the price you paid and those 5 cents does not reach the performer.
Tokens are not money
MyFreeCams writes that tokens have no cash value. Cam4 goes further: purchased tokens left unused for six months expire and are removed without refund. A large package lowers the unit price, but only if you spend it in time.
